SEMICON KOREA 2023 Opening

450 Companies, 2,100 Booths, and Over 60,000 Visitors Expected – Rising Interest in Semiconductors
Semiconductor Technology Conference to Share Advanced Technologies and Break Through Technical Limits

Amid challenges faced by the semiconductor industry, a major platform has been established to share the latest technologies and market insights, aiming to break through the technological limits of semiconductors. As a result, the global semiconductor community is turning its attention to Korea.

SEMICON KOREA 2023, the nation’s largest semiconductor exhibition, opened on February 1 at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul. The exhibition features about 450 companies across 2,100 booths, with more than 20 conferences and 120 semiconductor experts sharing market outlooks and insights into manufacturing technologies.

Key forums include:

SEMI Technology Symposium (STS) Metrology and Inspection Forum Test Forum Smart Manufacturing Forum Sustainable Manufacturing Forum Market Trend Forum

The SEMI Technology Symposium is divided into six tracks—Lithography, Materials, Devices, Etching, CMP & Cleaning, and Packaging—with presentations on the latest manufacturing technologies. Participants include major chipmakers like Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, as well as semiconductor materials and equipment firms and academia, sharing roadmaps from across the supply chain.

The Metrology and Inspection Forum addresses new technical challenges arising from the advent of GAA, BVNAND, and NSPDN technologies, under the theme “The Era of Convergence in Metrology and Inspection.”

The Smart Manufacturing Forum will focus on AI and intelligent solutions being adopted in semiconductor manufacturing for productivity gains and cost reduction. Under the theme “Future Smart Factory,” it will present data analytics technologies and case studies.

Other forums include the Test Forum offering insights on next-generation testing solutions, the Sustainable Manufacturing Forum focusing on greenhouse gas reduction, energy efficiency, and carbon neutrality, and the Market Trend Forum, featuring global research agencies sharing supply chain outlooks and the impacts of trade conflicts.

In addition, SEMI is addressing the global semiconductor talent shortage by providing programs to attract and nurture talent. These include “Meet the Experts,” where students and professionals can receive career guidance directly from engineers, and “Women in Technology,” highlighting the vision and experiences of female leaders and engineers in the industry.

The exhibition also hosts a Business Matching Program, where Korean materials, parts, and equipment companies are holding about 80 meetings with GlobalFoundries, Kioxia, and Micron. Furthermore, a U.S. semiconductor investment briefing is being organized in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Commerce’s SelectUSA program to support global expansion for Korean companies.

Hyun-dae Cho, President of SEMI Korea, stated, “The annual growth rate of SEMI membership is around 3.7%. While membership once focused primarily on semiconductor companies, in recent years we have seen a significant increase in participation from materials, parts, equipment companies, as well as automotive and systems firms across the supply chain. SEMICON KOREA 2023 is being held on a grand scale for the first time in four years since the COVID-19 pandemic, and we expect more than 60,000 visitors.”
